Geniculate Artery Embolization
GAE (Genicular Artery Embolization) is a promising treatment for patients with moderate to severe knee OA pain, who do not qualify for or desire surgery. This minimally invasive procedure targets the root cause of pain by reducing blood flow to the knee joint lining, effectively alleviating inflammation and discomfort.
What You Need To Know
GAE is ideal for patients who have exhausted conservative therapies and seek an alternative to knee replacement surgery. If you’re experiencing moderate to severe OA-related knee pain, our comprehensive evaluation will determine if GAE is the right fit for you. Conversely, certain conditions diminish candidacy for GAE. GAE is not a treatment for knee pain related non OA such as injury, infection and/or cancer. GAE is not meant to be a replacement for surgery in those who are good surgical candidates and willing to undergo surgical treatment.
Conveniently performed at our RAYUS Vascular outpatient facilities. No hospitalization will be needed. Under light sedation, a catheter is inserted into an artery network near your upper leg/hip region. Guided by real-time X-ray imaging, our IRs precisely deliver embolic agents to the targeted knee arteries, achieving rapid pain relief.
What To Expect
Once we work with you to determine a treatment plan, one of our vascular staff or interventional radiologists will review any pre- and post-instructions for your procedure. You will be walked through your procedure so you know exactly what to expect. If you have questions, at any time, please ask. We want you to feel informed every step of the way.
